Greg Stamer

Greg Stamer has been kayaking since 1988. He is a much sought-after instructor and teaches kayaking worldwide and across the USA. Greg’s passion for Greenland-style kayaking, and the lack of available information at the time, fueled his desire to travel to Greenland to learn directly from Inuit kayakers.

In 2000 Greg attended a Qaannat Kattuffiat training camp near Nuuk, Greenland and was a member of the first American team to compete in the 2000 Greenland National Kayaking Championships (alongside Cindy Cole and Harvey Golden). This was the first time the event was opened to outsiders. Greg won his age group among the combined field of foreigners and Greenlanders, including a gold for competition rolling and a bronze for long distance paddling. He returned in 2002 and again captured gold for rolling.

Greg is the president and founder of Qajaq USA (www.qajaqusa.org), an organization dedicated to promoting Greenland-style kayaking. Greg is also known for long kayaking expeditions. He holds records for the fastest circumnavigation of Iceland (1,007 miles in 33 days with Freya Hoffmeister) and the fastest circumnavigation of Newfoundland (1,306 miles in 44 days, solo).  Greg used carbon Greenland paddles exclusively on these trips.

Greg also enjoys kayak surfing, kayaking camping and kayak racing (with both a wing and a GP). Greg lives in Orlando Florida. You can visit his website at www.gregstamer.com.
